That's not the example you think it is.

As a business, Apple is extremely attentive to that price performance curve.

They tend to focus on premium/luxury fit in finish within market, and leverage aggressive vertical integration to help themselves deliver that at uncommonly high margin, which gives them momentum to mostly stay ahead of the competition within the high-margin luxury market.

They'll occassionally test a product for a more niche/rarified bleeding-edge market, but mostly don't push the limits of what's altogether possible technologically. Just what's cost-effective given their design and manufacturing optimizations.
