In Icaza's case I think he just always wanted to work for Microsoft. I don't know about the less famous developers though.
replyWell he did, in the end until he quit Microsoft (and Linux) and moved to macOS/iOS and Swift development.
replyicaza hasn't dev or used gnome for like decades.... and i am not sure why you assume the intent of miguel like that.
