They'd presumably ask for more details and/or references, at which point you would be hopelessly enmeshed in a web of lies of your own making.
replyThey will run a background check listing all your past jobs, with the exact title you had, and start-end dates.

I was able to get 2 offers last year after a 4 year break (distributed systems), but it was difficult to get thru front doors, references make a bigger difference nowadays.
replyI took a position 1 level down from previous to pay the bills. Am now interviewing for positions 2 above since I’m already performing at that level and my current company is too bureaucratic to bump me quick enough.
