To clarify, OpenKnowledge will never publish your project to GitHub automatically. When you init a new project, selecting "Shared" means that OK config files will not be gitignored. Selecting "Local" will add them to your gitignore. Other open knowledge instances can only sync if you have explicitly published your project to GitHub (which you can do from the app) and enabled auto-sync in OpenKnowledge. It would make a repo in your own GitHub account. You can choose whether that repo is in your personal GitHub or your GitHub org. We'll make that clearer in the UX.
