We went from critical thinking to only some people can participate in society in the blink of an eye. What if you’re one of the people deemed too dumb? Did that ever occur to you?

Voting rights were generally restricted on property ownership and not intelligence. The principle was people who owned the country had the right to direct it, and they were better suited than those with nothing to lose.

Expanding the right to vote worked well when every citizen owned things. But now there's so much inequality that many people would be OK with burning everything down as they have nothing to lose.
