Google seems inflated: I feel like the meaningful range is between 4.5 and 5 stars, so 4.5 stars is just okay, and as you get closer to 5 stars it’s more likely to be actually good. Yelp does not feel as inflated to me.
replyAgree that NYC has great ramen. One of my favorites (in LES) was in fact in TFA.
I’ve found it’s very city dependent. My experience in the US was yelp was miles ahead, but where I live (Edinburgh) it’s pretty much useless.
replyIn the southeastern US, Yelp is almost negative signal because southerners have legitimately horrible taste.
replyI have an unfair suspicion that the people who make yelp great in the US are the same that make it suck in Europe!
