replyFYI, "market rate" refers to the highest compensation that someone would be willing to offer a person with that profile. When you sell something, you sell it to the highest bidder. You don't sell it to the median buy offer.

The market rate is the expected compensation in a certain market, usually based on location, and it's a range rather than a single value. If it was the highest compensation, everyone except a single employer would pay below market rate. What you're referring to is "top of market".
