It is a global journalistic standard to explain where something happened in context to geography that the intended audience would understand.
It would be really weird to watch local news if every story reiterated “this happened in West Palm Beach in the American state of Florida”. They don’t need to say that when everyone watching lives there.
It’s only weird because we’re expecting everything on the internet to be written for a global audience. But really this is like going to a Chinese newspaper website and getting pissed off that it’s not in English. If you don’t understand, you’re not the intended audience.
