I doubt it's as simple as that. I mean we're talking about a kind of cultivation of the self, acquiring a higher way of seeing. I suspect that some kind of destruction of the old way of being is called for to arrive at this higher state.

Via some kind of disaster maybe. Or a long erosion. Maybe drugs.
