If you don't want to play 3d games or run local LLMs, why is GPU acceleration important when you have a more than capable CPU for any desktop UI?

Without 3D accl basic web browsing can sort of suck, QubesOS has software only rendering and you can really feel it.

Depends on your desktop UI. If you install something like Gnome (as I did with Asahi Linux today on an M3 Air) the animated transitions don’t work. You just get a short frozen period and then it cuts straight to the final state. I could try installing a more barebones DE which has no need for animations.

Can you disable animations completely? At least I could in Gnome. It will become more snappy as a result as well.

I did. Still missing the Vulkan support for Zed. But I noticed my WebGL ray marched shaders run quickly - with glitchy artifacts.
