how about the opposite: a massive resurgence of slur usage and inflammatory open bigotry in general conversations is going on right now, especially with kids, because people allowed it to be normalized without pushback. Some of the shit hear every day, online and irl, would've got you clapped from your job or expelled a decade or so ago. Even if you do find it offputting, without greater support if you stand up to it, many people don't, because in turn it'll cost them more than it costs the person saying it.

normalization works, and therefore it's important to not be a part of it and be brave enough to create an atmosphere where it's a bad idea socially. If you can't trust people to understand that plagiarism is bad, then I guess you've just got to make it toxic to be associated with.
