Exactly. Call racism/xenophobia/whatever bad (ok, easy enough). Write off all the bad shit in history as if those were the simple causes. And in doing so doom yourself to repeat them. Because things are far more complex than that. "Bad" (to our modern opinions) beliefs are rarely doing the heavy lifting on their own. There's usually economic issues and/or less clear cut fundamental differences at play.
