I've been working around it by setting my keybind to
reply gdbus call --session --dest com.mitchellh.ghostty --object-path /com/mitchellh/ghostty --method org.gtk.Application.Activate '{}'
I had a similar problem maybe a year back. I've stuck to Foot since. I've got a new laptop now though and might be worth giving Ghostty another spin.

replyI like foot but don't mind waiting a few tens of ms in exchange for kitty's graphics.
I'm on Rio at the moment, pending a wezterm bugfix (but I might just stick to Rio). The launch is perceptually instant on all my machines, and it does support sixels and all that nonsense.
