If I were a country with this kind of attack sitting around and I wanted to use it for war stuff, I’d probably wait until a hot war had started. Destroy the freezers when everyone is busy making weapons or manning trenches, might actually cause a food situation.

Let's say China and Russia have hacked into FBI and CIA. It helps those countries build a psychological profile of the centers of power in Western countries. This can help in many ways. E.g. if it is known that Bitcoin is actually a CIA plot to transition the whole world into post-dollar economy, then China can plan ahead and ask its citizens to buy gold.
