Ask HN: How do AI agents help you in your daily life?
It's the new better search engine for me. It helpf me avoid click bait videos on YT, as it can summarize and fakt check them with a click. I use it to organize all my paper work as far as legally possible ;) And it was the game changer, that made Linux the perfect OS for me. If there's anything not working or not working as I would like it to be, it helps me fix and or modify anything I want. Of course it made programming with foreign code bases a lot easier, such that I now am an open source developer in my free time, trying to make the world a little better step by step. And it is really a great tool if you want to learn new things. No need to mention you have to stay skeptical with the answers you get...

I started with Debian in the VM and now Ubuntu is the distribution I boot into.

It helps me with studying and i also use it to go down rabbit holes, coding as well of course. honestly, AI has been a boon for going down rabbit holes, cuz i can ask it questions like what ifs that a simple google search might have never answered

For me, AI has really helped me out with random personal research projects I've always wanted to look into. I had a long note with dozens of projects that I never had time to work on. Now most of them have been knocked out.

I also use it for things like ordering groceries. That doesn't sound like that much of a time saver but I can ask for meal ideas and then convert that into a recipe and an online grocery order.

I've been going to Home Depot a lot so I dictate the list of stuff I need and have it build a shopping list along with a map of exactly where everything is in the store so I don't have to wander or ask for help.

I journal after every judo class I attend, I dictate how it went and my tool (notion) organizes my thoughts based on a template I have and gives me notes to review before next class.

Building a budget now is very simple as well. Before I had to manually recategorize transactions in a spreadsheet and build a bunch of lookups by hand. Now I can throw AI at it and it can figure it all out.

I like hiking. But it's a bit hard and tedious process every weekend to look for where to go and where weather is going to be good. I put a CC scheduler that updates a list of suggestions for the weekend (as an interactive and stateful Claude Artifact). It runs every Thursday. It also suggests if some other interesting things happening like going to see a Salmon run. Wherever I go I also add it to its journal part. Also I can add to its calendar. It so good for organizing things in the life. It makes things efficient, but also more encouraging to get done.

Not much, but there are a couple things I use them for. I always have them review my workouts and then adjust my workout routine with an API. It's much easier to tell them what I want to fiddling with workout apps or excel spreadsheets.

Other than that it's mostly random tasks that come up. Filling out long forms online, filling out PDFs for tax stuff. Sometimes I have them review my finances and check for subscriptions to cancel.

They also manage my machine by installing/uninstalling stuff, cleaning up unused apps and freeing space, updating dependencies.
