So in Dutch one expression for "that makes no sense" is "dat slaat nergens op", which literally translates to "that doesn't hit (slap, beat) anything".

For some reason I felt like sharing this trivia.
I never heard “op een drumstel”, always “op een varken”. So it would be “Dat slaat als een tang op een varken.” Or “That hits like pliers on a pig.”
reply"Als een tang op een varken" is the common one for me as well. Runner up: "Als een lul op een stadsbus" (it makes as much sense as a dick against a city bus)
