There are plenty of GPS trackers which can be used for anti-theft purposes. AirTag isn't designed for that, largely because Apple doesn't want the bad PR.

replyBut if it is unlocked, I don't think apple will do anything for you with the device. If it comes in for service they won't confiscate it, I think they'll work on it.
It is all on you. You should lock it, enable find my and do remote erase/etc.
Not really, it is just tracking your bike. Theoretically someone could have thrown the bike in a dumpster, which went in a trash truck and you aren't tracking any body.
